Land and Equity Movement Uganda

LEMU is a national NGO that has made significant contributions towards the recognition and protection of land rights under customary tenure at both local and national levels in Uganda.

Based on grounded research since 2003, LEMU has effectively engaged the various stakeholders (both state and non-state) in an attempt to reduce inequality in customary land rights and prevent dispossession of the most vulnerable sections of the society such as women, youth and the rural poor.

Uganda Community Based Association for Women and Children Welfare

Association for Women and Children Welfare (UCOBAC) is a national non-government organization whose main objective is to promote improved welfare of vulnerable women and children in Uganda. UCOBAC carries out advocacy activities to influence positive welfare policies and programs in favor of the most vulnerable, training local communities to plan, obtain and manage resources effectively and it works with indigenous community-based organizations to help them meet their objectives in improving the welfare of children and women.

Uganda Land Alliance

Uganda Land Alliance is a registered national civil society consortium of organizations and individuals founded in 1995 during the Uganda Constituent Assembly. It made input into the recognition of customary tenure and women’s land and property rights in the Constitution of Uganda, 1995. ULA envisions, “A Ugandan Society with equitable access and control over land and the poor women, men and children and other marginalized groups actively participating in eradicating poverty”.

In realizing the vision, ULA is guided with a mission statement to “enhance access, control and ownership of land by the poor women, men, children and marginalized groups through the promotion of fair land laws and policies”. ULA also played a key role in ensuring the Land Act, 1998 protected the rights of women on family land through the inclusion of the consent clause in the law.

LANDnet

LANDnet Uganda was founded in 2012 as a network engaged in research, capacity development and policy advocacy on land, gender, agriculture, and natural resources management. LANDnet offers capacity development, research and organizational management and development to the public, private sectors and to Civil Society Organizations.

LANDnet envisions Uganda’s land and natural resources being used productively, efficiently and sustainably for present and future generations.

Oxfam in Uganda started work in the 1960s delivering development and humanitarian support as part of the global Oxfam confederation, a global movement of people fighting to end inequality and injustice. We tackle the inequalities that make and keep people poor. We save and protect people’s lives in times of crisis, work with people to build resilience and rebuild their livelihoods. We enable vulnerable people’s voices to be heard and campaign for genuine, durable change.

Our Vision is Uganda free of inequality and Injustice: A society where people, particularly women and young people, claim and exercise their rights and responsibilities and influence decisions that affect their lives

Food Rights Alliance

Food Rights Alliance is a coalition constituted in 1999 to bring together Civil Social Organizations working in the field of sustainable agriculture and food security in Uganda. The Alliance continues to grow in numbers and influence with a membership comprising of national and international NGOs, regional Food Security Networks and individuals.

To advance the right to adequate food in Uganda, we work to promote sustainable farming and food systems through the three approaches of: Policy Analysis and Policy Engagement, Awareness and Capacity Building and Building Strategic collaborations through which we implement direct programs and policy advocacy campaigns with the comparative advantage drawn from being part of a consortium.

Trócaire

Trócaire is an agency of the Irish Catholic Church established in 1973 with its headquarters in Maynooth, Co. Kildare, Ireland. Trócaire works in 20 countries around the world; in Africa, Central America, Middle East and Asia. Trócaire Uganda office was established in 2008 and works in partnership with local organizations in the North and Eastern parts of Uganda and at the national level.

Trócaire envisages a just and peaceful world where people’s dignity is ensured and rights are respected; where basic needs are met and resources are shared equitably; where people have control over their own lives and those in power act for the common good.

Trócaire focuses on three areas: Resource Rights, Women Empowerment and Humanitarian preparedness and response.
